Having trouble setting your virtual background? 

Let’s troubleshoot the problem together. 

Here are three ways to fix the issue. Please try the following: 


1. Turn Your Video On

Virtual backgrounds will work in Zoom only if your video is on. 

In Zoom, click the camera icon that says “Start Video.”



Try setting your virtual background again. 


2. Enable Smart Virtual Backgrounds

If your video is on and it still doesn’t work, try enabling the Smart Virtual Background setting in Zoom. Here’s how: 


  • Click “Zoom.us” 

  • Click “Preferences…”


  • Click “Background & Filters”

  • Click “Download” after receiving the prompt “Download Smart Virtual Background package?”




You should now be able to set your virtual background! Try again in Zoom.



3. Manually set the virtual background

When all else fails… do it yourself! 

You can set your virtual background manually if you download the image from your donation tax receipt email. Here’s how: 

  • Open your donation tax receipt email. The email is from: [email protected]

  • Click the “virtual background” link to open up the virtual background image in a new tab



  • Right click and “Save Image As” to download the Zoom background image to your computer



  • Log into a Zoom Meeting

  • Click “Zoom.us” 

  • Click “Preferences…”



  • Click “Background & Filters”

  • Click the plus icon  

  • Click “Add Image”



  • Select the image on your computer



You should now have a virtual background!
